Writing Idea #2: Letter to the Visual Impaired

Picture
There are many people in the world that cannot see. They have never seen what a flower looks like. They don't know what a sunny day looks like. And just like Thomas from The Black Book of Colors they have never seen what colors look like. For this activity, you are going to write a letter to someone that is visually impaired describing something in the world. In your letter, remember to include imagery words so they can picture what you are describing in their head. Since they cannot see, make sure to use words that appeal to all of the senses, especially  taste, touch, hearing and taste.

Writing Idea #3: Imagery Graphic Organizer

For this activity:
  1. Print off this link -----> Mental Image Graphic Organizer
  2. Re-watch the read aloud of The Black Book of Colors
  3. As you are listening to the story, write down the words or phrases that appeal to your senses in the boxes they belong.
  4. After you are finished, flip the page over and write a few sentences about which words or phrases appealed to you most and why.
